Sunlight

Choose a sunny location receiving around 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Good sunlight is important for strong growth, flowering and fruit development.

Watering

Water regularly and deeply, particularly during warm and dry Sydney weather. Keep the soil consistently moist without leaving it waterlogged.

Try to water around the base of the plant rather than constantly wetting the leaves.

Soil

Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or quality organic matter. Tomatoes are productive plants and benefit from nutrient-rich soil.

Feeding

Feed regularly with a quality vegetable or tomato fertiliser once the plant is established. Follow the fertiliser label instructions and increase attention to feeding when the plant begins flowering and producing fruit.

Support

Provide a sturdy stake, cage or suitable tomato support as the plant grows. Supporting the plant helps keep foliage and fruit off the ground and makes harvesting easier.

Pots & Containers

Tomatoes can be grown successfully in large containers. Choose a pot with good drainage and enough space for the root system.

Harvesting
