SYDNEY GROWING & CARE GUIDE

SUNLIGHT

Plant in a position receiving around 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Good sunlight supports strong growth, flowering and fruit production.

WATERING

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during hot Sydney weather. Avoid allowing the plant to repeatedly dry out while fruit is developing.

Water deeply around the root zone and ensure excess water can drain away.

SOIL

Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Eggplants perform best when their roots have access to good nutrition and moisture without remaining waterlogged.

FEEDING

Feed regularly with a quality vegetable or fruit-and-vegetable fertiliser during active growth. Once flowering and fruiting begin, consistent nutrition helps support continued production.

POTS & CONTAINERS

Stria Eggplant can be grown successfully in a large container. Use a quality vegetable potting mix and choose a pot with good drainage.

Container plants generally dry out faster than plants in the ground, so monitor moisture carefully during summer.

SUPPORT

Plants can become heavy when carrying multiple fruits. Providing a small stake or support can help keep the plant upright, particularly in exposed locations.

HARVESTING

Harvest eggplants while they are young, firm and glossy for the best texture. Regular picking can encourage the plant to continue producing more fruit.

Avoid leaving over-mature fruit on the plant for too long, as this can reduce the plant's energy for producing new fruit.

SYDNEY SEASONAL TIPS

Spring:
Plant once temperatures begin warming. Give young plants plenty of sunlight and protect them from unusually cold conditions.

Summer:
This is an important growing period. Maintain consistent watering and feed regularly as plants flower and produce fruit.

Autumn:
Continue harvesting while temperatures remain suitable. Protect plants from cooler nights and remove tired growth as the season finishes.

Winter:
Eggplant is a warm-season crop and growth can slow considerably in Sydney's cooler months. In colder areas, protect plants from frost and cold winds.
